Observation of Nomination process in Teso Region

Soroti carried out a training of election observers on 22nd and 23rd November at Church of Uganda Medical Centre. A total of 80 observers were trained and supplied with necessary materials to help them in carrying out the observation exercise. Most of the observers were not sure at first whether they were acting in accordance with the laws of Uganda they expressed fear of their security. They were reassured by the facilitators on their duties as citizens contrary to Articles 17 & 38 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and by the end of the training there was a lot of excitement and confidence in the monitors they knew they playing their role as citizens by actively participating in the democratic practices of their country and were ready and willing to carry out their duties.

The nomination of mps in Soroti district on 25th, November 2020 went on well though it was very hard to enter and observe without proper identification. That is the challenge that our observers faced unlike observers from DEM group and CEDDU who have already been accredited they had their identification tags and found it easy to access entry.

President Museven's rally went on well though there was an incident where soldiers beat up a boda boda Cyclist in flying school gate for wearing a FDC T-Shirt when taking a customer. Security was extremely tight and there were about 15 Lorries and small taxis deployed to ferry people from all parts of Soroti to attend the rally.

A Caravan from National NGO Forum yesterday stormed Teso region, right from Bukedea district to Soroti gardens where the launch of citizen manifesto took place. People swamped around the caravan eager to know more about the citizen manifesto. Over 250 people signed up to support the citizen manifesto as their own document. We are estimating a total of 6,000 signatures from Teso sub region as a sign of ownership of the citizen manifesto.
