Scuffle Breaks Out Over Ballot Boxes in Masaka

Polling at one of the polling centers in Masaka was this morning plunged in crisis over ballot boxes.

The scuffle between polling agents and presiding officers at Viena yard polling station in Masaka, was sparked off by an open ballot box that was brought in at the polling station.

Polling agents demanded to know why the box was open and an argument ensued. The agents stood their ground saying that the polls would not begin unless an explanation is given about the open box.

Mercy Komuhangi, the presiding officer at Vienna Yard however managed to convince the polling agents that this was an accident and not a deliberate move to bring in an open box.

But this was not the only mix up.

In another incident, Tugume Mugisha, the returning officer Masaka, was this morning taken through a rude awakening after realizing that he dispatched wrong ballot boxes to the wrong divisions.

With panic all over his face, Mugisha quickly sprung into action and was heard making urgent phone calls, recalling the boxes that were dispatched in Katwe Butego zone.

Rose Nakyanzi, the National Resistance Movement Chairman, was quickly rushed to the offices demanding to know why the boxes had been swapped. She was however told that this was just a mix up, with no ill intention whatsoever.
